ASSIGNMENTS

Monday -
Objective: Students will learn to identify positions on an argument.
Activity
: Warm up. Students will discuss within groups their position on this question: "What groups could be responsible for obesity in America? Who is NOT responsible?" List them. Rank these groups according to portion of responsibility. You may not agree, that is OK. Find evidence in each of the four article we have read to support each group's responsibility.
Information - VOCABULARY QUIZ NEXT TUESDAY - DEADLINE
Homework: As assigned.


Tuesday -
Objective:
Students will learn to identify their own position on an argument and to state that position clearly.
Activity
: Finding my position in reference to the evidence. Making a preliminary statement. Adding "provisos" and "althoughs."
Information - POSITION vs OPINION
Homework: Refine your statement of position. Write it down as a final statement.

 

Wednesday -
Objective: Students will learn to identify evidence to support their position.
Activity
: Groups will scour the article for evidence paying close attention to those passages that surprised group members when they were first read. START VOCABULARY GROUPS.
Information - Calorie Chart Analysis of Diet
Homework: Finish any work that was not accomplished in class.

day -
Objective: Students will practice arranging evidence to support their position.
Activity
: Groups will continue yesterday's work and group evidence under topics for paragraph development. VOCABULARY GROUPS WORK
Information - Comparison of Micky D's and "My Diet."
Homework: Finish any work that was not accomplished in class.

Friday -
Objective: Students will practice a first paragraph introduction to a position paper.
Activity
: VOCABULARY GROUPS WORK. Individuals write their first paragraph of their position paper and share the results.
Information - Vocabulary presentations begin Monday.
Homework: Finish any work that was not accomplished in class.
