Monday -
Objective: Students will prepare for the AP Free Writing prompt by study of a well known work's plot, character, setting, point of view, theme and style.
Activity
: The class attends a "cocktail party" in which we act sophisticated and spout wisdom and witticisms to each other while enjoying our hosts tasty beverages. Discussion of Chapters 1-5 of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Focus on how characters are introduced and characterized by the author/narrator.
Information -
Homework: Read Chapters 6-8 in The Picture of Dorian Gray in preparation for class discussion of the book. Focus - character.


Tuesday -
Objective:Students will prepare for the AP Free Writing prompt by study of a well known work's plot, character, setting, point of view, theme and style.
Activity
:Discussion of Chapters 6-8 of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Focus on how characters are characterized by the author/narrator. Discuss round, flat, dynamic, stock etc.

Homework: Read Chapters 9-11 in The Picture of Dorian Gray in preparation for class discussion of the book. Focus - setting.

Wednesday -
Objective:Students will prepare for the AP Free Writing prompt by study of a well known work's plot, character, setting, point of view, theme and style.
Activity
:Discussion of Chapters 9-11 of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Focus on how the setting of the book contributes to the development of the book's plot, characters and themes.
Information -
Homework: Read Chapters 12 & 13 in The Picture of Dorian Gray in preparation for class discussion of the book. Focus - point of view and theme. Read "point of view" in Bedford, p. 199-204 and theme, p. 281.


Thursday -
Objective:Students will prepare for the AP Free Writing prompt by study of a well known work's plot, character, setting, point of view, theme and style.
Activity
: Discussion of Chapters 12 & 13 of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Focus on point of view and theme.
Information -
Homework: Read Chapters 14-16 in The Picture of Dorian Gray in preparation of class discussion of the book. Read style in Bedford, p. 316-321.

Friday -
Objective:Students will prepare for the AP Free Writing prompt by study of a well known work's plot, character, setting, point of view, theme and style.
Activity
:Discussion of Chapters 14-16 of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Focus on the style, tone and irony of the book.
Information -
Homework: Read Chapters 17 to the end of The Picture of Dorian Gray in preparation of class discussion of the book. "Prepare" for a free write based on The Picture of Dorian Gray on Monday.
