Attendance and Tardiness
Being in class on time is extremely important. College professors (contrary to what is generally thought) require regular attendance in class.
Be aware of your behavior.
Avoid making excuses - make changes in your behavior.
Set standards for attendance and puctuality fro yourself.
As homework, which cannot be submitted late for any reason, and participation count heavily in the student evaluation, absences and tardiness which clearly affect both since homework is submitted immediately upon the start of class, are to be avoided. Use the following as a guideline:
A single tardy in a marking period is permissible.
An attendance percentage of 95% is acceptable and means one day in a marking period or three days spread over two marking period.
Note that you are absent - or a non-participant - if you are not in class FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER.
If you are diligent, have either perfect or 95% attendance with no or very few tardies, you will well, given that you do the work. If you are frequently tardy or absent, you will not do well in this class.
The likely influence of absences and tardiness are illustrated below:
A student who misses more that 5 days in a marking period is likely to earn
a D or lower.
A student who is habitually tardy a minute or more will likely earn a C or
lower.
A student who is habitually tardy and misses more than 5 days in a marking
period is likely to fail.
