Class Debate Hints and Clues


Judges may not enter the debate or do anything that would dispel his impartiality. The judges will be marking the ballot according to its directions.

Contesting teams may have very quiet conversations during the debate in order to communicate ideas for rebuttal or building the integrity of their positions. Keep this low and brief.


Debaters


· Debaters will sit at desks facing the judges. When they speak they will rise, stand and speak from the podium. NO SEATED PERSONS are allowed to debate.

· Dress well. Look good and feel confident.

· Speak audibly, forcefully. Avoid mumbling or speaking to notes. Standing tall will help the voice project clearly.

· Be prompt with your delivery. Getting and staying organized allows you to stay on time.

· Follow the rules of the debate given to you.

· Keep "a spring in your step." Avoid dragging yourself through the assignment.
