Readings: Definition. Each of these are essays of definition, codifying "insight," "scientific reasoning," "existentialism," and a word. The essays by Dillard and Sartre are especially challenging reading. You should set aside a good amount of time for them, perhaps an hour or more. I recommend taking notes as you prceed reading these essay, especially Dillard, Bronkowski, and Sartre, to help you reveal how each author defines his or her topic and what kind of examples are used. Keep in mind, though the style of these will not be your style, that you will have to do some definition in your debate, probably in the opening remarks and constructive speech, and that these essays are very important reading for anyone who will have to define. ALL READINGS ARE IN NORTON.
