6th week:March 8 to March 15

I defend my writing under scrutiny.
I can analyze my results in M/C and plan a strategy to maximize my accuracy.
I can manage my time, outline my writing and succeed in arguing a position.
I can read, understand and remember etymologies as a way to expand my English knowledge.

Homework:

Monday - Junior Project Paper for The Hairy Ape, Our Town and The Children's Hour.

Tuesday - A half sheet with heading and five questions for the "game."

Wednesday - A list of five "how" or "why" discussion questions for the seminar

Thursday - Bring your notebook up to date especially Home Work, Vocabulary and Class Notes sections.

Friday - Finish your JP book if you have not; look at the next Later Moderns section. Start thinking about what topic you want to debate and with whom you want to work (three people).

What is due:

Monday - Resubmitted found words list from week three readings: Sedaris, Rose, Douglass, Malcome X.

Tuesday - Junior Project Paper.

Wednesday - A list of 5 questions for the "game."

Thursday - A list of 5 questions which will bring on discussion of the book - Stress "how," "why," rather than "what" questions.

Firday - Note book section check - plainly mark or excerpt these sections of your notebook: Homework log (could be a planner); Class notes (important or interesting ideas presented by the teacher or by students); Vocabulary (should show the lists and your notations if any).

In class:

Monday - Practice Vocab Quiz / Found Words Vocabulary Activity - Bring your lists from week four readings. As time allows, parsing the M/C reading from Friday and a few questions.

Tuesday - Writing the rhetorical prompt. This is a final for writing. You will be judged on the following issues: correctness (style sheets), organization of the essay, displayed understanding of the tasks set by the prompt, transitions use and how you say that which you have to say. A brief outline of your ideas will be required.

Wednesday - Vocabulary practice: four team vie for "valuable" prizes. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," they say.

Thursday - JP book seminars based on Gatsby, The Sound and the Fury, and The Sun also Rises. (Participation grade and reading grade final exam)

Friday - Final Vocabulary w/ etymologies 25 minutes/ 84-86 questions. Final Multiple Choice test - read a passage and answer the 14-16 questions.
