Homework:
Monday - Read the Junior Project link for Early Moderns. Choose a book to read. Sign up tomorrow in class. Print out a copy of the on-line version of the Junior Project Response Form for you use in class. YOU MIGHT EXPAND THE FORM TO ALLOW ALL THREE PLAYS TO FIT ON THIS FORM. Check vocabulary/etymology.
Tuesday - Obtain your book: I have several copies of Faulkner. Fitzgerald is in the book room. Hemingway can be had at the library or any used book store. Check vocabulary/etymology.
Wednesday - Begin reading your book. Be ready to answer a few question about the book in class tomorrow. Read the first 15 or 20 pages, whichever makes more sense. Work on expanding your JP Response and begin word processing it. Check vocabulary/etymology.
Thursday - Read the LAST 15 to 20 pages of your book: Based on what you know about the book, so far write what you think happens between the beginning and the end - speculate when you do not know. Reveal to your reader why you know or think you know what will transpire in the book. DO NOT LOOK UP A PLOT SUMMARY ON LINE. Be authentic. Use 300 words.Check vocabulary/etymology.
Friday - Read your JP book at least to the mid-point but stop, if you do stop, at a place that is a natural break past the midpoint. Write a short summary of what has happened so far; relate to the ending and speculate about what will happen AND what was inaccurate about your predictions on Thursday night's writing. Check vocabulary/etymology. FINAL JP RESPONSE ON EARLY AMERICAN DRAMA IS DUE NEXT TUESDAY IN CLASS.
What is due:
Monday - Knowledge of Sherman Alexie's "Superman and Me" or The Children's Hour. Submit a fully completed M/C analysis form and have something to say in our review of the pieces.
Tuesday - Show a printed copy of the on-line JP Response form with space allowed for three plays. Know what book you want to read for the JP.
Wednesday - Show your JP early modern's book in class for credit.
Thursday - Knowledge of your JP book's beginning.
Firday - 300 words on your JP book and knowledge of the ending.
Writing: See homework - 300 words on your book for Friday; more the following Monday.
In class:
Monday - Short seminars on Sherman Alexie or Lillian Hellman. M/C review: analysis results and some question analysis.
Tuesday - Writing review: On the overhead projector, more critical looks at the Group Essay (Coke). Group work on JP Response form. Read around of agrumentative papers. Argumentative anchor papers and a listing of arguments on both sides.
Wednesday - Vocabulary is given. Practice quiz on etymology. JP group work.
Thursday - timed write. Arrive as early as possible for the synthesis essay.
Friday - Multiple choice read through and open discussion of pieces from an AP exam. JP work.
Vocabulary The 4th list for the marking period; emphasis on ETYMOLOGY. 3rd Quiz period ends passing bell to 5th period Thursday. Next deadline is Wednesday, March 10, again 5th passing bell.
