Homework:
ALL READINGS ARE IN 50 Essays.
The four of these essays are autobiographical in nature. For each one write about the motive of the author to accomplish something in his life, not in the writing, (what it is, how he goes about it, and why) and suggest his motive for publishing the piece (to whom he writes {audience}, why he writes {purpose}, and how he writes {strategy} in view of the previous two aspects. Each response should be at least one page typewritten or 350 words. IN ADDITION, while you read, look for five words that are not widely known by your classmates, look them up in a GOOD dictionary, check and note the etymology and make entries in your note book. By Friday, you should have 20 new words to tell us about. Submit a copy of your list Friday.

Tuesday - Read Mike Rose, "I Just Wanna Be Average."
Wednesday - Read Malcolm X, Learning to Read.
Thursday - Read David Sedaris, Me Talk Pretty One Day
Friday - 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th: Read Sherman Alexie's The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me in 50 Essays for Monday's seminars. Read 5th period - read: The Children's Hour for Monday's seminars.
What is due:
Monday - M/C analysis using numbers in a chart form or narrative with bulleted numbers. Knowledge of the readign assigned.
Tuesday - The reading response for Monday night's reading.
Wednesday - a list of five questions you want me to answer and the reading response for Tuesday night's reading.
Thursday - Your reading response for Wednesday night's reading.
Firday - Your reading response for Thursday night's reading. Your own"found" vocabulary and etymology list of 20 words from the readings Monday-Thrusday..
Writing: Reading responses are due Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A timed write is due Friday.
In class: Monday - 1st, 2nd periods - Seminar on Ivins and Royko. 3rd, 6th Seminar on The Children's Hour. 5th Seminar and discussion on Sherman Alexie's "Superman and Me." All - A quick read around of John M. Barry.
Tuesday - 3rd given vocabulary. Analysis of M/C practice test 1 results. Group share. Question analysis. Another quick read around of John M. Barry.
Wednesday - Question day. A time to refresh your memory, to ask the question that has been bugging you, to get your questions about the class, about the curriculum, about the test, about life.
Thursday - Revision defense and writing open seminar using transparncies of your revisions of the group "Coke" essay.The final read around of John M. Barry and return of the papers.
Friday - Another of a series of timed writes in preparation for the AP test on May 12.
Vocabulary The 3rd list for the marking period; emphasis on ETYMOLOGY. 2nd Quiz period ends passing bell to 5th period Wednesday. Next deadline is Wednesday, March 3, again 5th passing bell.
