5th Week: January 11 - January 15, 2010

I can identify the hallmarks of the early American drama, 1911-1939
I can ask and answer questions about Naturism and the Naturalist book I read.

 

Homework:

Monday- tead The Hairy Ape, first five scenes.

Tuesday - Finish crafting your part of the group essay body paragraph. Bring in for stamping. Wednesday.

Wednesday - Compose question exposing Naturalism on three levels - Questions based on the tenets of Naturalism, questions based on PAL definitions (there are two) and background on Naturalism, and question based on your careful reading of the books. Bring questions for stamping use, and submital

Thursday - Finish crafting your part of the group essay 3rd body paragraph and an original conclusion for submittal in group and to the team leaders for final composition this week-end. Bring Friday for stamping.

Friday - (three day weekend) Finish The Hairy Ape and prepare for discussion in socratic seminar Tuesday. Read the given passages and material of the synthesis prompt. Think about your position on the issue, which of the passages and materials you will use to defend your position, and what your thesis might be.

Readings:: The Hairy Ape, PAL on Naturalism, Elements on drama (enrichment).

Writing:: The group writing process continues in class and at home. Planning for an in-class, timed write over the week-end.

 

In class: Monday - .Vocabulary. Finishing 1st paragraph critique. Groups write their parts for paragraph twoand three. Enrichment focuses on drama and writing. Notes will be collected and stampted this and next week.

Tuesday - Introduction to American drama. Discussion of The Hairy Ape as early American drama.

Wednesday - Group writing session on paragraphs 2 and 3 - checking for argument and transition.

Thursday - Naturalist team questioning and socratic discussion

Friday - Final paragraphs of our nine are written. Team leaders collaborate on final copy over the long week-end.

Vocabulary: New vocabulary presented on projector powerpoint.

Quizzes: Vocabulary quiz ends Monday at passing bell to 5th; new quiz ends next Tuesday.
