The "How" Question Rubric

 

Diamond:

1. Concisely defines the purpose and the elements of style to be considered.

2. Uses appropriate textual examples to illustrate the elements of style.

3. Makes a clear connection between each element and the purpose.

4. Unifies the statement in clear, correct language demonstrating correct, journeyman's writing style

 

Spade:

1. Indicates the purpose and the elements of style less clearly in relationship to each other.

2. Uses examples which are less closely tied to the point of discussion but not off topic.

3. Makes some, perhaps tenuous or abstruse, conncetion between elements and purpose.

4. Does not unify the statement, or is unclear at times, or uses incorrect language demonstrating an apprentice-like style.

 

"F-hole" symbol:

1. Does not clearly or correctly identify purpose or elements of style.

2. Uses no clear or cogent examples to illustrate elements of style.

3. Makes little connection - or incorrect connection - between elements and purpose.

4. Demonstrates a generally unclear use of language, or commits frequent stylistic errors.

 

Joker:

1. Incorrectly or vaguely identifies purpose and elements; or simply follows a formula.

2. Misuses examples or alludes to them vaguely.

3. Makes no connection between elements and purpose.

4. Demonstrates an unwieldly and generally unclear use of language, or commits frequent and major stylistic errors.
